Abigail S.'s Story
written by mom Rachel

Abigail is our first and much desired precious daughter.  She was born very healthy and has been such a joy to all of us.  At six months she started to cut her first two teeth.  She became unusually fussy. We thought that it would disappear when the teeth came in.  Somehow, she never got happy again. She became pale and fussy and bruised easily.  She seemed to always be achy and tired.  We brought her into a Pediatrician who did lab work.  He called us and said, "Your daughter has blood cancer. Where should I send the ambulance? Children's Hospital is waiting for her in the ER." We were absolutely devasted!  We have been in the hospital for 3 months now.  She went into remission 2 weeks after treatment and is doing well despite the many bumps she has hit along the way.  She is going into surgery to get her seventh central line placed.  She has also sustain two severe blood clots above her heart.  There has been many moments that could have been her last but she is strong and pulling through.  She is so courageous and a good example to us all.  She has another 21 months of treatment.  We hope that all goes well for her.  If anyone knows of or has a child that has been diagnosed under a year please get in touch with me. Thank you.
