Amylyn W.'s Story
written by mom Arlene and Grandma Claire

Amylyn was born on September 16th, 2004 after a day at Wrigley Field watching the Chicago Cubs play.  Arlene and Alex and Grandpa Brian and Grandma Claire all made Arlene walk up to the top balcony to see the Cubs.  Amylyn also shares her birthday with her Great Grandma Arlene Fondren.  Amylyn is a cute little girl with a 2 year old brother named Luke, she and her family just bought a condo in March of 2005.

Amylyn really showed no symptoms of any type of illness, she was just having a nice summer.  On August 19th Amylyn and her family went out for lunch and Alex, Amylyn's dad, thought she looked a little pale, so to be safe they called their doctor and when she saw Amylyn, she thought maybe she was a little anemic and she should go for a blood test at the children's hospital across the street from her office.  Arlene and Alex took Amylyn for that blood test and that is when they found out the shocking news of Amylyn's Leukemia.

She is now at the Hope Children's Hospital in Oak Lawn, IL.  She has been receiving intensive chemo treatments in her spine and in her IV as well as blood transfusions and blood platelets transfusions.  The doctors are very hopeful that they can put her in remission, but she will be undergoing treatments for the next 44 weeks.

Thank you very much for letting Amylyn get on your quilt list, I think this is a wonderful idea and a treasure for her to keep her entire life when she can tell her story of courage and strength to overcome this illness.

June 21, 2006 - Update from Grandma Claire

This is extremely hard for me to tell you, but Amylyn passed away on June 17th.  It was not from her leukemia, but she had taken a tumble down 1 stair and hit her head on a ceramic tile floor.  The result was a small fracture to her skull just above her ear and she had emergency surgery on her brain which eliminated the blood inside, but she never recovered.  It was a very freaky accident and I believe her little body couldn't recover from the trauma.  We are so deeply saddened by this and cannot possibly understand why this thing happened.  I hope we can still receive her love quilt in her precious memory.

Please keep up all your wonderful and caring work with your love quilts.

Sincerely,
Claire

Amylyn's family knew her quilt was coming.  They had been watching the squares as they came it.  It was sent to them as a memorial quilt for Amylyn a few weeks after she passed.
