Carter's Story
Written by Carter's mom Veronica in 2007

Carter is my first born.  At 8 lb 3 oz and full term to the due date he was picture of health.  On June 7, 2007 he ran a high fever and complained of stomach pain.  The doctor feared appendicitis and sent us to the emergency room.  After 5 hours of tests they came back telling us there was a large mass on his kidney and they believed it to be Wilms tumor but that we needed to be seen at Johns Hopkins Oncology and an ambulance was on it's way.

Carter was admitted to Johns Hopkins on June 7th. After several scans it appeared that he had a spot on his right kidney, a spot on the lung and a very large tumor on his left kidney. The surgeon did a wonderful job and after 5 hours of surgery was able to remove the tumor completely. They said it was contained and hadn't ruptured. They also checked the other kidney while doing surgery and it appeared healthy. A second scan was done of the lung to reveal the spot as nothing more than a blood vessel. We are praising God for the healing we believe he recieved to the right kidney and lung and for the ability of the surgeon to completely remove such a large mass. After pathology got all the reports back from lymph nodes and surrounding tissue they gave us the final diagnosis of Wilms Tumor, stage I. Of course this was a big blessing coming from what appeared to be stage V. We are looking at 22 weeks of chemo. We are praying for a full recovery.

He tells me he doesn't want cancer and he just wants to be better for Christmas.  I tell him he will be.

UPDATE...as of 11/15/07 Carter's in remission!!!
