Caydence S.'s Story
Written by Caydence's mom Misty in October 2007

Caydence was born July of 2005. She had red hair and big brown eyes that just sparkled. We thought she was healthy, then she started spitting up alot and fussy. Her doctor thought it was her formula.  But then we noticed her little belly getting bigger. We thought at first she was just eating good, but it just kept getting bigger.  We started taking her to the doctors a lot, we were concerned about this big belly. When Caydence was 15 months old we took her to the doctor begging him to look at this belly, it was now huge. When he lifted her shirt and felt her belly he looked up with this look on his face that I will never forget. That day Caydence went for tests and was diagnosed with CANCER in both kidneys, she was stage 6. This was the worst day for our family, hearing the words your baby has Cancer.

Caydence was sent to Rochester Minnesota to Oncology and Urology.  She went through more testing and was immediately put on Chemo. In February 2007 Caydence had surgery to remove her cancer, the Chemo did not shrink her tumors at all. The tumor on the left kidney was the size of a football, the whole kidney had to be removed.  The right kidney also had a large tumor she lost 25% of the right.

The end of April 2007 we were so happy Caydence had finished Chemo and her hair was coming back, still RED. But when she went in for her routine ultra sound there were those words again. Caydence had cancer again.  The first part of July, 2 weeks before her second birthday, she went back to Rochester Minn. More testing, new protocol of Chemo. Now it's October and the Chemo is not working again. Caydence had surgery on October 16th and did well, she came home after only 4 days!  The Dr. were amazed at how well her surgery went. He got all the cancer and did an oblation to burn off any remaining cells. We also had Caydence Baptized before surgery. God has been so good to us.
