Chase H.'s Story
Written by Chase's mom in October 2007

Chase was born in May of 1993.  The first child to Craig and Melissa.  He lived a charmed life full of fun with sports including baseball, hunting and fishing.  He has always been a very bright child.  He has been in honors classes since he was in 5th grade.  He currently attends High School.  He has played USSSA baseball with the Chapin A's for 3 years.  He has participated in World Series tournaments in Knoxville, TN and Pensicola, FL. He plays 1st base, 3rd base, and pitches.  He is looking forward to trying out for the high school junior varsity baseball team in the spring.

On October 13, 2007 Chase was vomiting and complaining with a severe headache.  He was taken the the NCMH ER for treatment of what we believed to be a bad stomach virus.  We were told there was a tumor on the CT Scan that had been taken and he was being transported to Palmetto Richland Hospital in Columbia, SC.  There in the pediatric ER we were told that it appeared that has a Craniopharingomia.  A rare tumor located above the putitary gland and under the optic nerve. The tumor was blocking the flow of ceribal spinal fluid from his brain and building up in this brain causing the nausua and vision problems he experiencing.  He had a shunt implanted in his brain on 10-15-07.  I have a programmable shunt and received radiation treatments at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
