Chloe's Story
Written by Chloe's mom Jaclyn in August 2006

On September 26, 2002 my husband and I were in the hospital waiting for our sweet new baby to be born.  I still remember the moment when they finally told us that we had a baby girl.  I was so happy, and instantly in love, as was her daddy and big brother Brandon.  Chloe had always been a very happy, healthy little girl, and loves nothing more than spending time with her brother.

In early April of 2006, Chloe seemed to be coming down with a cold.  She had a few low grade fevers, and a cough that wouldn't seem to go away.  She started sleeping nearly all day every day, and had absolutely no appetite. On easter, we went to spend the day with some family, and Chloe still spent the whole day laying on the couch.  Everyone seemed to comment on the fact that she looked so very pale.  I decided to take her to her pediatritian the next day since the cough had not gone away.  Immediately her doctor commented on her skin color, and sent her for bloodwork to check for anemia.  We weren't home more than half an hour before the Dr. called us back and said we needed to head to Children's hospital to have more tests done because her blood levels were so low.

We were admitted that day and she was put through many blood tests, transfusions, and finally a bone marrow aspiration.  On April 18, her daddy and I were taken to a small room where we were told that our baby has Leukemia.  I was stunned, especially since she seemed to be doing so much better after getting all the blood transfusions.  She was sent into surgery the very next day to have a med-port placed into her chest, and she was started on a chemo protocol right away.  After her initial week long stay in the hospital, she has done amazingly well dealing with all the Dr. visits and chemo.  She has just been back inpatient at the hospital for about a week for fever and neutropenia, but is still in great spirits and doing very well.  Chloe is looking forward to going home and being with Brandon and playing outside.  She is our little princess!
