Chloe S.'s Story
Written by Chloe's mom in 2008

I am Chloe Anne. I just turned seven years old on January 10, 2008, and am a big sister to three siblings! On August 21, 2007 (when I was six) I was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma..

I began chemotherapy at Texas Children's Hospital immediately after diagnosis. The current plan (or roadmap as it is called) is to receive treatments every week for 54 consecutive weeks. Sometimes I have it at the hospital's clinic and get to go home. Other times, I have to stay at the hospital for four to six days so the nurses and doctors can help me.  There have been a lot of visitors and presents, which is so fun! I just love Hello Kitty, Princesses and Fairies and all of the other treasures people have sent and brought for me. I am sharing all of my new things with my three-year-old sister, Phoebe! Eva Marie and Nicholas are still babies.

Update: 3/3/08

Deb and her daughter Sammi met with Dr. Pappo this morning to discuss the results from Chloe’s most recent PET scan. As you may know, Chloe has reached her lifetime maximum of the “big gun” chemo drugs she has been treated with over the last many months. While they’re the most effective weapons against Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma, there are side effects: these particular drugs are so potent, so toxic, that they can cause serious organ damage. There are also diminishing returns, as the cancer can develop resistance to treatment. Thus, there were high hopes that the scans would be clear and that Chloe would be in remission.

After leading legions to Christ, His special child -- His chosen suffering saint joined Him in eternal rest at 11:57pm last night, October 9, 2008...

Chloe died and went to be with Jesus and her suffering here on earth is now finished... She was surrounded by her godparents, great-aunt Susie and grandma Deb who were praying the Lord's prayer with her as she approached Heaven's gates...

Her loving mother and step-father were in the process of explaining to Phoebe that her big sister was going to be moving to Heaven soon and would not be coming back home... Chloe chose her perfect time knowing all her work on earth was finished and God Himself, With Jesus Christ and Chloe's loving uncle Richard welcomed her into the place He had prepared...
