Donald's Story
Written by Donald's mom in 2007

Donnie was born on a Monday morning in December he is our third son and just like our other boys he was perfect!!  Don was a normal little boy growing like a weed but just like our other boys he got sick a lot with the general colds but nothing ever serious.

In January we had noticed his tummy was getting bigger but didn't think anything of it until March I finally took him to the doctor and the doctor told me nothing was wrong, even without touching his belly!!! But thats besides the point.

In May we went in for a regular check up and I was not going to mention his belly when we were almost done and the doctor said "you know I noticed his belly" I said don't worry the other doctor told me there was nothing wrong, but she insisted to check him out anyway.  She felt his liver was enlarged had 2 additional doctors check him out and 2 of the 3 doctors prescribed an ultrasound, so the next day we went for our ultrasound and... they sent us home only to tell us that our son was diagnosed with a Wilms tumor.  We were at the Children's hospital the next morning by 9:30 am were they confirmed by a catscan.  Surgery was performed and they removed his right kidney along with the tumor and some lymphnodes and also place a port connected to his vein to be able to recieve his chemo.

Donald recieved 7 treatments of radiation after surgery and began 25 weeks of chemo treatments.  He has been doing pretty good, there are some side effects to the chemo he recieved, he had a slight drop foot problem, but I think it has slowly gone away.  His hair fell out of coarse!  But he likes it when people kiss his bald head anyway.
