Hunter N.'s Story
Written by Hunter's mom in October 2007

Hunter was born on August 6, 2001.  He was a very healthy, energetic child.  Around the end of March 2004, he started running a fever and was vomiting.  Within a few days he was very pale and wanted to sleep all the time.  He was walking with a limp and had knots on his head.  His pediatrician referred him to the Oncology Clinic at Children's Hospital (B'ham).  He was diagnosed with Leukemia and was admitted immediately.  The date was April 15, 2004.  He received blood transfusions and started chemotherapy on April 17, 2004.  He was treated with four different types of chemotherapy over a 2 1/2 year period.  He became so weak from the cancer and chemotherapy that he could not walk for a month.  He always kept a positive attitude and would say "it sure is a beautiful day" and "do you hear the birds singing for me?"  Hunter donated samples of his blood and bone marrow for research with the hope that some day every child with Leukemia will be cured.
