A Thank You From Mason's Family!
April 3, 2008

We received Mason’s quilt today and we are all THRILLED!  Mason wanted to look at and talk about each special square and read the name and location of each “stitcher”.  I have cross-stitched before, so I KNOW the work that is involved in each square.  It is so wonderful that all of you are willing to do this for these children battling these awful illnesses.  Mason is so proud of his quilt that he plans to hang it on his wall!  It perfectly fits his love of all things Western!!  Thanks again for your special gift and for your continued prayers.
God Bless You All, Andrea (Mason’s mom)

Mason W.'s Story
Written by Mason's mom in March 2008

Mason was originally diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia in March 2003. He went through 3 1/2 years of chemotherapy, including many, many spinal taps, different types of chemo, and hospital stays. In May 2006 we were given the "all clear". Things sort of got back to normal.

This Spring, Mason began putting on a lot of weight. We couldn't figure out why. We had his tonsils and adenoids taken out in June and thought that it would help with his bouts of strep throat, snoring, etc. His blood work before surgery was clean. He just never quite regained his strength after surgery, and seemed to be having problems concentrating. He was also very irritable. He had none of the same symtoms of when he was originally diagnosed. We thought he was depressed and took him back in to Children's Hospital the first week in August 2007.

Blood tests, a spinal tap, and a bone marrow aspiration showed that the leukemia had returned. Trey, his 12 year old brother, has been tested and found to be a perfect bone marrow match - a true blessing from God since the chances of having a sibling match is only around 25%. Our whole family is at war with this terrible disease.  On January 8, 2008 Mason's brother Trey was his bone marrow donor!
