Rian's Story
Written by Rian's mom Angela in 2007

Our second oldest daughter, Rian Mason Bevan, was diagnosed with pre B Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia known as pre B ALL on February 16, 2007. It is the most common form of childhood Leukemia (aka cancer of the blood) and has an 85% cure rate. We hope that Rian will be one of the children cured of this cancer.

Rian is doing well with her chemotherapy. She has less than 600 white cells now instead of the 89,300 she began with. A normal child has 15,000 white cells. At this point in her treatment she has no immunity so she can not be near anyone who has had a flu shot in the past 30 days, is currently ill with a cold or other ailment, or children who have been vaccinated in the past 30 days. The doctors have told us that if she is around someone who has been recently vaccinated she could get that disease and it would be life threatening for her.

She is tired and has kept her spirits up as best she can. This is going to be a long road (2-3 years) with lots of doctor, hospital and clinic visits in Iowa City. We really will need your support through this time.
