Samantha's Story
written by mom Betty

Samantha was a full term baby with no complications.  She has been a healthy child all along except for an occasional cold. She turned 10 in January.  In the spring of 2006 she was playing softball and noticed a small bump on her right forefoot.  We proceeded to take her to our local pediatrician.  We were told  it was a cyst on her foot and her being active it would go away. It didnt go away, it changed in color and grew.  We then took her to a local orhopod specialist.  He was suspicious of the lump. We had a local MRI done and immediatley were sent to Duke hospital in North Carolina.

Samantha was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, a malignant tumor on her right forefoot.  She is going through chemo treatment every 21 days with 2 to 5 days inpatient treatment. Radiation began in December for her right groin lymp nodes.  The main tumor was removed at the end of November.  Reconstructive surgery of her right foot will take place after the tumor is removed chemo will remain the same for a total of 10 months.  What makes Samantha so special is her acceptance of this horrible disease, she has great faith that the Lord will heal her.  She is a great inspriation to all that have met her!  We are so proud of  her and have learned by her as well.

She is doing well as of today, living one day at a time.
