Sierra F.'s Story

Sierra's Journey started on the day that she was born: January 3, 2001. She was born a beautiful, healthy baby!  Everthing was going along just wonderfully, Sierra began rolling over, scootin along across the floor, soon she began to crawl, and then pulling herself up, she was doing everything she was supposed to be doing for her age...then...All Of A Sudden Everything Started To Change!

By the age of 9 months old we noticed Sierra not pulling herself up anymore, and she started crawling slower and slower, so of course I took her right to the Doctor to see what he thought.  The Dr said that nothing was wrong with her, he said maybe she is just a little behind, he told us to wait untill she was 1 and see what happens!

OUR TRIP TO ARNOLD PALMER HOSPITAL:

A.J and myself & (half of the family) took Sierra to Arnold Palmer and tried to have her Admitted through the ER!  As soon as they heard our story one of the Dr's called the BAD Dr and told him a thing or two for not taking care of this child himself, then she was Admitted for the start of a 3 day stay!!

Over the next 3 days they put our Sweet Little Baby through so many tests, and so much Bloodwork, to only get a guess at what they thought she has a Disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy!  We have never heard those words in our life, had no idea what it meant!  We took Sierra home only to have to come back in 2 weeks for the FULL RESULTS!

Needless to say on Sierra's 1st Birthday NOTHING had changed she was only getting worse, she was having trouble sitting up by herself, and could no longer crawl!  So when we took her back to the Doctor's and he still told us NOTHING was wrong, Sierra's father and I took matters into our own hands!!!

This all coming from a Dr who, when Sierra was 3 months old and spitting up her formula, told us that she needed a Spinal Tap, and a Catheter to see what was wrong and he wanted to do NO blood work, and we told them NO and took her to another Dr and it turned out all she needed was A TSP OF BABY CEREAL put in her formula to keep it down! Good Dr huh!!

THE RESULTS:

I will Never forget this day for the rest of my life!  Almost the entire family went to Dr Pollock's office to hear the Final Results!  We were all holding hands and Praying our Hearts out!  Dr Pollock Confirmed that Sierra did infact have a Disease called SPINAL MUSCULAR ATROPHY!!
